DuBose family members rendered special music

 

Following individual presentations by several college students who spoke from personal racial experiences, Michael Virts addressed elements of reconciliation
A floral gift was presented to special guest Catherine Sumner, a descendant of Senator Charles Sumner, in honor of his 200th birthday

Reminiscent of his historic crusade which established the U.S. Colored Troops as an instrumental factor in the Union’s Civil War victory, The Spirit of  Frederick Douglass [Michael Crutcher] speaks with a present-day military serviceman who attended the program.
Freedom Rider  Reginald Green, who exemplified the courageous spirit of a generation determined to eradicate racial prejudice, was recognized for his life-long commitment to achieve equality.
Historian and MRSPT Board Member Nelson Rimensnyder paid tribute to Massachusetts Senator Charles Sumner, a noted Civil War abolitionist who was severely beaten  on the floor of the U.S, Senate by South Carolina Senator Andrew Brooks.
Hari Jones, Assistant Director and Curator of the African American Civil War Museum, introduced attendees to the exhibits comprising The Glorious March to Liberty displayed at the Museum’s new home.

Civil War Sesquicentennial & Racial Reconciliation Conference

A Civil War Sesquicentennial program held at the Sumner Museum and Archives on October 15, 2011, also included a tribute to Senator Charles Sumner in observance of his 200th birthday.  Presentations offered at the one-day conference examined our country’s history of racial relations from the Civil War era through the Civil Rights era to the present
