Military Road School Memorabilia Donations

As a part of this year’s 140th Anniversary celebration, MRSPT sought to collect all available memorabilia.  We were privileged to receive a number of items from three former teachers and several students.

Miss Norma Johnson donated her pencil sharpener, a lantern used in a Christmas play, and primary readers with some teacher’s notes she had made for classes.  Mrs. Elaine Parks provided a roll book in which she kept milk records, planned May Day exercises and recorded other student information. Mrs. Doris (Tracy) Taylor contributed several textbooks and a cherished official picture of Grades 1 through 3, taken November 1952.  Several former students furnished various certificates, pictures, report cards, and diplomas, which were copied and donated to the Charles Sumner School Museum at our June luncheon.  We were previously blessed to receive many snapshots of Military Road School students taken by another teacher, Mrs. Ruth Whitted, prior to her passing on August 13, 2001.  Memorabilia not donated to the Sumner Museum is being retained by MRSPT for display at our various functions until such time as a permanent Military Road School museum to house the collection can be established.
