(L-R) MRSPT Secretary, Theresa Saxton, Mrs. Doris Taylor and husband Lurdest Taylor

Photo Gallery

This year’s event was characterized by a 1950’s school theme, and upon registering for class, each attendee was given a lunch bag, which contained eating utensils, a program and a small card of appreciation.  The class was called to order and Rev. Aubrey C. Lewis, Pastor of the St. Luke Baptist Church, opened in prayer. Mrs. Doris (Tracy) Taylor, who taught at the Military Road School between 1952 and 1954, read a passage from the Bible she had received during her early teaching career in the D.C. public school system. Following the morning devotional period, a buffet breakfast, which had been prepared by MRSPT’s Board of Directors, was served.

Rev. John Jones, Assistant Pastor at St. Luke, gave the day’s lesson as he addressed MRSPT’s 2008 theme:  “Improving Our World--Together.”

Mrs. Taylor was accompanied by her husband, Lurdest; and although other family members were unable to attend, a tribute from son, Clinton Miles was read.  Mrs. Taylor was honored for her service at the Military Road School and for her continuous support and encouragement to MRSPT in our mission to preserve the Military Road School legacy.  She was also recognized for her ongoing devotion to teaching today’s young children in the Prince George’s public school system.
