On April 22, 2004, MRSPT
members Barbara Johnson, Patricia Tyson and John and Theresa Saxton attended
the Bruce F. Vento Public Service Award Dinner given by the National Park
Trust (NPT), honoring Congressman John Lewis. Congressman Lewis is the only
living Civil Rights leader who spoke at the August 28,1963 March on
Washington
. The Trust, which purchases
lands for acquisition by the National Park Service (NPS), worked with
Congressman Lewis in acquiring the last parcels to complete the Martin
Luther King, Jr., National Historic Site in Atlanta, Georgia.
