Luncheon
Ms. Karen Gray Houston, a
veteran reporter with Fox Channel 5 News, was recognized for her
thorough issues making news in our Nation’s Capital. Ms. Houston was
presented with the Military Road School Award of Excellence, which also
included a monetary donation to her charity of choice, the Payne-Tanner
Memorial Scholarship Fund The Good Samaritan
Foundation, initiated by former Washington Redskins Ernest Byner, Tim
Johnson, Charles Mann and Art Monk, was presented with the Richard Hurlbut
Memorial Award in recognition of their endeavors to mentor inner-city youth.

Phillip W. Ogilvie Historian Award was presented to former D.C. Council
Member Frank Smith, the Founding Director of the African American Civil War
Memorial Freedom Foundation for his tireless effort to honor the colored
troops who served in the Civil War.
In addition to receiving the award, named for the renowned historian who
conducted extensive Civil War-related history prior to his death, the
Foundation was presented with a monetary contribution to assist Dr. Smith
and the museum staff with ongoing research and preservation
activities.
