In Memoriam
This website is dedicated to Mr. John Wayne Saxton. John, passed away on July 14, 2018, following a traumatic medical incident, was well known to most MRSPT supporters as a member of our Board of Directors. Although famous for his delicious grits, which were served for many years at our Annual Prayer Breakfast, among John’s other “hats” were those of Treasurer, Photographer and Webmaster. In that role, he designed and maintained MRSPT’s websites and also re-designed the current Military Road School Alumni Association website. Even though he was not an alumnus of the Military Road School, John’s commitment to uphold the School’s legacy of excellence was very much appreciated by who knew him and had the privilege of serving with him over the past 20-plus years.
Ruth Barbara Johnson, affectionately known as “BJ” to those of us who worked with her since this organization began more than 20 years ago, recently passed after a brief illness.
An alumnus of the Military Road School, Barbara was instrumental in researching and documenting the School’s history, resulting in successful endeavors by alumni to obtain historic status for the current building. She was also a founding member of the Military Road School Alumni Association, established in 1997, and remained an active volunteer as we transitioned into the Military Road School Preservation Trust in 2003. Barbara, who also occasionally shared her experiences as a former Military Road School student at various presentations, continuously volunteered her time, resources and energy toward insuring that this organization’s programs--especially the scholarship fund--were successful in promoting the Military Road School’s legacy. She served successive terms as our chief officer in the roles of Chairman of the Board of Directors and currently as MRSPT’s President.
We shall truly miss the wit and wisdom of our friend and colleague, but her enduring legacy of perseverance, integrity and caring leaves us a stronger organization.
